2026 Chatswood High School Catchment Update

Second entry in the many yet to come update for upcoming 2026 catchment update in Sydney. Again I want to stress how big and numerous the changes are this year. Most of the changes are not on the news like the one with Killara High School and also have significant impact on the many residents in the coming years.

Basically, Chatswood High School catchment continuing to shrink over the years, something to the tune of 50 percent in the last ten years or so. This gives you some idea of recent increasing population density in Chatswood and what is likely to happen as well in near future. Chatswood High School has been almost entirely renovated recently, despite that it still received the major shrinkage to its catchment/intake area.

The black border is the 2026 catchment boundary and the red is the 2025 boundary. Please note, changes between the surrounding schools for 2026 are not shown in the following image. I do plan to go through as many of them individually where possible.

The cut over for this change for Chatswood High School is strangely specific and set at start of term 4 2025. So prior to this date, you can choose to enrol at Chatswood High School or its newly assigned catchment school. Once start of term 4 2025 hits, you can only enrol accordingly to the updated catchment. The interesting thing to note is students who has sibling already enroled at Chatswood High School that resides in the area being trasnferred away in 2026 do not get special treatment and has to go through the standard out of area application.

The green striped area is part of existing Chatswood High School catchment from 2025 that will stay being its intake area for 2026.

The red striped area is being transferred from Chatswood High School to Killara High School in 2026.

The yellow striped area is being transferred from Chatswood High School to Killarney Heights High School in 2026.

The most common name used by the NSW Department of Education is called “catchment” which refers to those students who reside in a particular area and are guaranteed a position in specific schools. When discussed from the perspective of a particular school is often referred to as one of the following terms.

School Zone
School intake area
School catchment

As usual, contact the school in question or the Department of Education for the final confirmation and you can also access the full NSW and Sydney Public School Catchment Map by following this link.
