2026 Killara High School Catchment Update

Special Update Note 2025/03/05: New information came up that Killara High School change has been partially pushed back to 2028. This means for students who are enroling in 2025 to 2027 will get offered the choice of both old and new school. This appears to be specifically applied to Lindfield Learning Village, while the other changes to its school catchment and related enrolment procedures will go ahead as previously discussed.

NSW Department of Education just dropped a gigantic update to the school catchment for 2026. I was looking at the NSW catchments in the January and none of these information were available at the time. I will try to create update for them, also the changes goes far more extensive than what the downloaded available data shows.

For this particular blog entry, I will focus on mainly Killara High School for 2026. A bit of background, there had been very significant changes multiple times to Killara High School catchment within the last ten years during the period I am documenting the change. The latest was in 2022 and it has been only three years and a major changes is happening again.

The black border is the 2026 catchment boundary and the red is the 2025 boundary.

The two green striped area is what will be transferred from other schools to Killara High School in 2026. The northern green area will be transferred from St Ives High School. While in 2025, both St Ives and Killara High School will be available as enrolment choice. Please note this area will become exclusive enrolment area for Killara High School starting from 2026. Enrolment application for students who currently reside within the catchment zone with siblings already enroled in the schools will be accepted regardless of this change.

The southern green striped area will be transferred from Chatswood High School to Killara High School. From now until before the start of term 2025, both Chatswood and Killara High School will be offered as options for enrolment. From term 4 2025 onwards, this area will become exclusive enrolment area for Killara High School. Enrolment application for students who currently reside within the catchment zone with siblings already enroled in Chatswood High School is subject to the standard out of area application process. It look like the switch from Chatswood High School to Killara High School is a hard cut off in this particular case.

The yellow striped area to the west will be transferred to Turramurra High School from Killara High School in 2026. This change applies to new student enrolment from 2026. Enrolment application for students who currently reside within the catchment zone with siblings already enroled in the schools will be accepted regardless of this change.

The red striped area will be transferred from Killara High School to Lindfield Learning Village in a gradual process starting from this year. Families area allowed a choice of their previous and new school in the enrolment option until the start of the 2028 school year. This will apply to applications submitted for Moving to high school expression of interest in 2025 for students moving into Year 7 in 2026, and all other new enrolments in 2026 and 2027. New information had came through that transitional arrangement now appears to apply for every year level from 2025 to 2027. From the start of the 2028 school year the catchment area will be changed for all new enrolments Year 7 to 12 using the updated map. Enrolment application for students who currently reside within the catchment zone with siblings already enroled in the schools will be accepted regardless of this change.

The most common name used by the NSW Department of Education is called “catchment” which refers to those students who reside in a particular area and are guaranteed a position in specific schools. When discussed from the perspective of a particular school is often referred to as one of the following terms.
