Australian Schools and Coronavirus – Term 2 For Victoria And NSW – 15th of April 2020

Victorian government has confirmed that the next school term will be taught remotely for all students where possible. The schools will stay open for students of essential workers or who does not have the means to study remotely. This will be reviewed after week five, but judging from how things are going currently schools are not expected to reopen generally until the term 3 in late July at the earliest.

NSW schools are in the same situation where they are not expected to reopen until term 3 in August. Term 2 will be taught remotely as well.

The rest of the states are in a similar situation, basically, all primary and secondary schools are not expected to reopen until term 3 in the second half of the year.

Australia wide there are a total of 6448 confirmed infections today and an increase of 34 which is equivalent to 0.53% from yesterday. NSW is broadening the testing criteria and basically, at this stage, anybody with temperature, cough and sore throat will be tested. This is very good and combined with pretty severe lockdowns that are currently in place. If things are currently holding out well, we may start to see a relaxation of lockdowns in another 4 to 6 weeks.
