Changes to Sydney public school catchment in 2019

I have been working on this for the last three weeks and have completed it yesterday. Following are a list of changes in public/primary school catchments in Sydney/NSW. There are a lot of changes actually this year compare the last few.

  • Roseville Public School lost the southeastern corner of the previous catchment that is east of the High Street is given to the Castlecove Public School.
  • Willoughby Public School lost the northeastern corner and that is given to Castlecove Public School as well.
  • New school in Parramatta called O’Connel Street Public School has established and opened. It will start to take on kindergarten students in the year 2019. It will be open to kindergarten to year 6 from 2020. It will be taken over part of nearby school’s catchment in particular Parramatta and Westmead Public School.
  • As above, Parramatta Public School will lose the northern half of the current catchment from the year 2019 to 2020.
  • Westmead Public School catchment will also shrink from the year 2019 to 2020 and basically lose everything north of the railway and those become part of the new O’Connel Street Public School.
  • Crestwood public school catchment got very minor shrinkage.
  • Matthew Pearce Public School major shrink of northern part and those are now part of the new Bella Vista Public School.
  • Bella Vista Public School has opened and taken over the northern part of the Matthew Pearce Public School and the southwestern part of what was previously Kellyville Public School.
  • Kellyville Public School’s southern half become part of the new Bella Vista Public School’s catchment.
  • Haberfield Public School major enlarge of the catchment to the south of the Parramatta road at the expense of the Ashfield Public School. Minor loss on the northern section which was given to the Dobroyd Point Public School.
  • Again as previously said Ashfield Public School lost of northern half to Haberfield public school.
  • Ironbark Ridge Public School’s eastern half that is east of the Smalls Creek is now the catchment of the new North Kellyville Public School.
  • Parklea Public School minor shrink on the southern border with Caddies Creek Public School absorbing those changes. This could be a mistake on my part last time around as the changes are very minor.

As usual contact the school in question or Department of Education for the final confirmation and you can also access the full NSW and Sydney Public School Catchment Map 通过点击此链接。

  1. Hello there,
Will you be revising over the Botany area?
Perhaps extending it further out due to the increase of new homes recently built?
    Regards

    1. Hi Tanya,

I think the entire Botany is covered already other than the airport which does not contain any residential area to my understanding. I will double check the area to make sure.

  2. Will you be extending matthew pearce catchment to cover more areas which fall under winston hills today

    1. Hi Tina,

Matthew Pearce catchment is not likely to expand as it is one of the most in-demand public school in the state the enrolment pressure from it resulting in the zone not likely expand in the near future in my opinion.

      1. Hi,

Wil lthere be further shrinkage of the Matthew Pearce Public School in the near future?

        1. Hi,

In my personal experience, it would be unusual to see changes to the catchment again in the near future. However, entire Northwest Sydney is seeing a very significant amount of new units and apartments being completed, so things can in a fair bit of flux in the coming years.

  3. Hello there, is the catchment map for Matthew Pearce Public School up to date with the 2019 changes? thank you

    1. Hi Vimal,

Westmead public school zone will shrink fully next year and no longer have any overlap with the new O’Connel Street Public School. Essentially it will cover any area north of the railway next year.

  4. Will catchment to Randwick Public School and Rainbow St Public School change in the near future, given the new development?

    1. Hi Anne,

Difficult to say, but given that the NSW Department of Education is implementing population cap to balance out the distribution of students between schools and both Randwick and Rainbow St Public school has the capacity to spare so it suggests their zone will not shrink in the near future. I would guess the zones will stay the same or slightly expanding.

  5. Hello, is the Summer Hill Public School catchment likely to either reduce or expand in the coming years? I noticed that Kensington Road, Summer Hill (the part of the street that is currently in the catchment area) appears to be closer to Kegworth Public School than Summer Hill Public School so I am wondering if there is a likelihood that the catchment for Summer Hill Public School will be reducing in size shortly.
    Many thanks.

    1. Difficult to say in this particular case, in NSW distance to closest school does not strictly determine which school’s catchment it belongs to. The Department of Education is going to enforcing strict enrolment cap, the effect of this will take a while to understand and have a better feel on how well it works. So we may not see large amount of changes in the inner cities until the effect of the school population cap settles.

      1. Thank you for responding and for clarifying. The current enrolment number for Summer Hill Public School is approx. 862. I imagine that if the enrolment number was closer to that of, say, Matthew Pearce Public School (which is closer to 1,400), then it is unlikely that there will be any change to the Summer Hill public school? Are you saying that until a school exceeds it’s enrolment cap, it’s unlikely there will be any change to the catchment area? In your opinion, do you think it will be at least 5-6 years before any changes are made to the inner city catchments?

  6. Hi have bought a place in Schofields and would soon move there. For primary school kids, I Schofields Public School is the affiliated school for my residence which is 2.8 kms from my house. I see another development happening in Akuna Vista Schofields with primary school planned to open in 2020. How can i know if there is plans to change my catchment to Akuna Vista School. Sorry for the random question. Given I am new to community thought of checking if you guys have some knowledge

    1. Hi Simran,

I had a look at this one, I cannot find any information regarding this on the Department of Education or the school infrastructure website. This indicate the school in question is not even in the planning stage. If I have to guess it will be at least a few years away if they decide to build a new school on that site. Generally, school catchment information is available roughly six months before the school open, this can vary of course.

        1. Hi Richie,

There is no yet concrete planning for this potential school, so not inspecting anything in the next few years at the least.

  7. Hi , Is there any Expected change in Quackers Hill Public School catchment area for 2021 Admission? I will be enrolling now as per current catchment, do it impact admission if catchment area shifts?

    1. Hi Archna,

As of this moment, I don’t see any changes in the area. However, I would suggest you contact the school in question to confirm this. Also in general school catchment changes happen before enrolment starts every year.

  8. Hi,
We live in Westmead. It comes under Pendle hill high school catchment area. The Pendle hill high school catchment area is wider and there are few other high schools near by Westmead. Pendle hill high school is little far away when compare to the other high schools.
Would there be any changes to the Pendle hill high school catchment area or the high schools near Westmead in near future?
    Thanks!

    1. Hi Gowri,

Looking at the projects in the area, there does not seem to be major projects going on, so if I have to guess I do not think there will be changes to the catchment in the near future. However, for confirmation please contact the school in question directly.

  9. Hi,
We live in the new Grantham Estate in Riverstone which puts us in The Riverstone catchment, We are physically closer to Vineyard Public, being close to Windsor road. The council are also currently working on opening Loftus st next to our estate, Would this change the vineyard and riverstone catchment for 2022 enrolments ?

    1. Hi Charlene,

I had a look at both school’s website and current ongoing projects, there does not seem to be any current plans to upgrade or changes in the near future. Department of education will generally run community consultation when there are changes to the catchment. Your best bet is to contact the schools in question to see if there are currently plan in progress with regard to changes in the catchment.

  10. Hi,

    Thank you for the article.

We are just wondering if Matthew Pearce catchment will shrink again in the near future.. say 4-5 years?

    1. Hi Kevin,

Given that Bella Vista Public School was recently opened and there are planned upgrade of the Matthew Pearce Public School, so I think there will be unlikely changes in the catchment in the near future. However, that is just my opinion.
