NSW, Sydney Public School Zone Map

The most common name used by the NSW Department of Education is called “catchment” which refer to that students resides in a particular area is guaranteed a position in specific schools. When discussed from the perspective of a particular school is often referred to as one of the following terms.

  • School Zone
  • School intake area
  • School catchment

As usual contact the school in question or Department of Education for the final confirmation and you can also access the full NSW and Sydney Public School Catchment Map by following this link.

  1. Hello

We live 4-5 minutes drive from John Edmondson High School only 2.5km, but the school catchment shows Casula High school which is about a 10 minute drive 4.5 kms.

    Are you able to assist?

    Thanks

    1. Hi Jack,

NSW school catchment is not strictly based on the distance to the school in question from the student’s residence. The school’s enrolment capacity will also play a very large role in determining the catchment. Large obstacles can river, major roads etc will often be taken into consideration as part of boundary as well. So schools with larger available capacity will often get assigned larger catchment. This can and often result in a situation like you are seeing where it is quicker to travel to the neighbouring school rather than the one you are zoned for.

NSW Department of Education is responsible for creating the school catchment with consultation with the schools and local community. Feedback to the schools involved and the Department of Education directly is the best way to change and update the school catchment.
