Would you please be able to tell me where i can find a similar page for Public HIGH school catchment areas.
Thanks
Jo
Unfortunately there is no such map available for the state high schools. You pretty much have to be find and confirm the catchment school by school. Alternatively you can call up department of education and they will be able to tell you which schools are a specific address is zoned for.
The problem with state high schools(public high school) is that multiple schools can overlap the same address. For example there maybe boys high school, girls high school and coed high school all covering same sets of suburbs with overlapping catchments.
I do have plans on mapping the catchments for the state public high schools as well, but need to first work out some technical issues. Time is also another constraint are my time, I am doing entirely out of my spare time and essentially trading sleep to get this done.
Thanks for doing this. the primary school catchment is very useful. your work is very much appreciated and i am sure other parents as well.
Thanks for doing all this work, it looks to be a great resource for primary schools. I’ll second Joanne’s request re. high schools – we’ve just moved to Sydney and boy it’s been a challenge to both find out what options we have in a given area, and moreover assessing the reputation of the school. Keep up the great work! (who needs sleep, eh? 🙂
Thank you for the encouraging words and it is always good to see your work is being appreciated.
Good job with the maps, very well done. Just a minor adjustment is required for Carlingford West Public. The eastern boundary of the catchment should include the north-south portion of Shirley Street (1-17). It is currently shown to be within the Carlingford Public catchment. Cheers!
Thanks for the correction, I have literally spend hours mapping Carlingford West Public School’s catchment. Can not believe I still missed that bit, I have now updated map and thanks again.
Thanks for your great job! It really saves us much time and energy!
Can I ask where I can find the school catchment for primary schools in Miranda, Caringbah and other surrounding suburbs? I didn’t find them in your map.
Thanks in advance!
Tracy
Hi Tracy,
Thank you for your feedback, there is just too many things to do and too little time for me. I am planning to fill out as many school as possible in Sydney. Shire district is certainly on my list of things to do, I just really need to find some time to do that, my paying job has been pretty crazy lately and hopefully things settled down some, then I can really crank out some contents.
Hi admin can’t thanks enough for your great work. This great source of information for parents. And like some other parents I am also after high school catchment as well. Many thanks in advance !
fantastic work!
The government should pay you for this! haha
Lol, I wish.
Hi,
What a great resource. Can i ask if you have done maps for Leichhardt, Lilyfield/Rozelle. I couldn’t seem to find them so maybe you have not completed.
Also what software do you use to create the maps?
Thanks so much for your work.
Inner West public schools are all done, the three school mentioned should be pretty accurate as well. You can simply just load up follow page http://www.schoolcatchment.com.au/?page_id=36 and then just zoom the embedded map into desired locations. Alternatively you could also make the embedded map on the page above mentioned into full screen mode and then map became searchable at that point.
The map is done using Google Map.
Amazing work! I’m curious what your background is why you are doing this. Whatever your answer is, thank you for putting this up!
I am currently working in the IT industry and have been for my entire career so far. Mapping is a personal hobby and use to draw maps on paper for fun in the school days. This started from the difficulties of finding good school catchment information when I was housing hunting and derived into a much larger scale mapping project. I am also a passionate supporter of public education so I figure I might as well combine the two interest. Believe it or not it is actually fun for me doing this, I really enjoyed it and to see others finding values in what I am doing is even more amazing.
Awesome stuff! I actually recently moved into the development right next to the UTS Lindfield site with my wife and 19 month old son. I have taken an active interests in this project and in fact this was the main reason I moved to Lindfield. I have also been actively participating in the consultation on education models for this new school but nothing much has happened until last week when DEC made the “surprise” delay announcement. I even raised my concern to MP Jonathan O’Dea for Davidson. Eager to see more updates on this project. Anyway, maybe add me on Linkedin? Mack Xue.
Hi,
Fantastic site, thanks.
I am looking at moving, and the place I am looking at is on a boundary street. Does one side of the road go to one school and the other side to another?
Cheers
Bob
Hi Bob,
It is fairly common for one side of street fall into one catchment and opposite the other. In general a particular address belongs to a particular school’s catchment and there maybe exception they stack, however I am not aware of any such cases. As usual use my map as reference and contact the school and education department for final confirmation.
Thank you very much. I am searching for houses around the Strathfield area and your website has been a massive help. I have recently moved back to Australia and have to much to do, this has been a massive time saver. It is also good to see that you have utilised your hobby for welfare of others.
Glad to see that it helped, I will continue to improve where I can.
Fantastic work on a much needed resource for all parents. One problem – I can see individual maps you’ve made for highschools as well as a static image of the map with all of the highschools mapped so far – but I can’t seem to access a google maps version of this.
Could you please provide a link?
Cheers,
Janelle
Hi Janelle,
I have disabled the access access to the Sydney High School Catchment map for the time being, there is some basic issues I need to resolve with Google Map first on my end. Fear not, I am still making updates and creating new catchment maps. I am still planning to make those available, however they may come in different format than than what previously done with Google map. I have also made some significant progress with mapping the Sydney High School catchments, so expect a rather large update in next day or two.
Also interested to see the high school maps in one format for Sydney! By the way- what a great effort you have gone to, it is greatly appreciated!!
Thank you.
Excellent work! The difference between states is interesting.. my daughter is currently at high school in Brisbane and the QLD Dept of Education has a great site which clearly shows catchment areas http://www.qgso.qld.gov.au/maps/edmap
NSW might get there one day but you did it first 🙂
Thank you for the comment and I loved what QLD did with their school catchment information, it must have made school’s life heaps easier. Just imagine the amount of time it saves the Department and school on answering the queries on school catchments. BTW QLD got by far the best school catchment information available compare to the rest of the states in Australia.
Really appreciate all your job
Thank you for your kind feedback and I will continue trying to provide best Australian school catchment information.
Great info, invaluable when looking to move with kids, thank you.
Is the kml data available anywhere? I’m thinking of putting together a fusion table or some such showing other demographic data, perhaps coloured zones by school performance scores..
Cheers
