  1. The catchment area for Concord High School needs to be changed. The area extends from Silverwater Road, Newington right over to Chiswick, however leaves out parts of Concord West. There are five streets in particular in Concord West which are out of area, however the bus route picks up children from those stops. It seems ridiculous that children living in Concord West are unable to go to Concord High School, when children living a long way away are. This needs to be revisited and fast!

    1. Hi Lisa,

Concord High School’s catchment map is unusual even by Sydney standards. With the rapid increase of population in inner Sydney suburbs similar situation will just happen more and more often. As schools often the better regarded ones getting packed. Bits and pieces of its existing catchment will gets sliced off and parceled off to neighbouring schools. There is just not enough capital investment in the public schools that, most of time you just these “temporary” demountables put in. What end up happening is these end up staying for decades and end up more or less being the permanent structures throughout many Sydney’s public schools.

With all the enrolment pressure particularly on the better regarded ones, you get some really weird shaped school catchments. This is happening in all states, just more so in Sydney than anywhere else.

  2. I am very frustrated as my son now needs to go to Homebush Boys while it could’ve been an easy way to get to school now it will take a while. Only about less than 10 streets from me is the area for Concord High School. My son applied for Concord High but was turned down with his application. This should have been considered when putting the area for Concord High in place, making sure most of the houses are equally distant from Concord High.
