I missed an update yesterday and swear it is not my fault, the computer splatted and started to die on me. I was rather peeved on late Friday night, here I was ready for a weekend of update and some game playing to relax, the computer knows exactly what I want and decide to play up. I pretty much spend all the spare time I had from later Friday night till about two hour ago trying to fix the issue. I will probably write a blog entry later to detailed what exactly happened, sufficient to say the computer is back in working order again.
This is the school catchment map for The Ponds High School in Sydney, NSW. The Ponds High School is in the relative new north west Sydney suburb. Please note that the southern tip of the catchment is shared with Glenwood High School currently and will be revert back to entirely being The Ponds High School catchment from 2017 on wards. The overlap will be more clear once I create the catchment map for Glenwood High School in the next few days.
The most common name used by NSW Department of Education is called “catchment” which refer to that students resides in particular area are guaranteed position in specific schools. When discussed from prospective of a particular school is often referred as one of the following term.
- School Zone
- School intake area
- School catchment

What happens to the primary school catchment if Pond High becomes the only option for presently shared catchment? Will they also change? As siblings would be a couple of suburbs apart between Parklea Primary and Ponds High?

Primary school catchment is independent of the creation of the Secondary Schools in NSW as far as I am aware of. They both tend to follow major geographic boundaries such as major roads, rivers etc. They are created based on school’s capacity and what made sense for the school itself at primary level. Having a secondary school several suburbs away is unfortunately very common in Sydney particularly in the West.

i am looking to buy a house the boundary of Ponds High/public catchment but worried if it changes in future then i will not just lose the good school as well as horrible hit to my home value. do you know how i can check if there are any plans in future about change in ponds school catchment.

The decision regarding the school catchment is controlled by the NSW Department of Education. It normally will perform consultations with the schools and communities affected but is not required to do so. Your best bet is to check with the schools in question and keep a close eye on the happening in the communities regarding this. However, in the medium to long term, there is no guarantee there will not be catchment changes due to population changes and other factors.
